The West Coast got an eyeful this morning but so EARLY! I got up at the crack of dawn or just before, got my nifty Pentax K-r and tripod, and with charged batteries and a hopeful outlook went outside on a cold 45 degree morning at 5:30 am. I had some difficulty getting the right exposure. Found that if you shoot at an average f 5.6 or so and a slow shutter, around … more
While our leaders in both political parties have been bickering over a national energy policy for the past 30 years we Americans have been squandering energy at an alarming rate. Bigger cars, bigger houses and more gadgets are the recipe for disaster. This is our fault and not just the politicians. Despite what we Americans may say we don't seem to give a damn about future generations. Energy conservation … more

JadeLouiseDesigns posted a Quick Tip about Cloth Diapers.

Love cloth! saves lots of money, saves on emergency trips to the store for MORE diapers, great on the environment, fun stylish designs that you can't get from disposables. We've had less leaks, less messy explosions and yes, even less diaper rashes.
Love love love! If you use Cloth diapers, you NEED this! Be sure you have 2 of them, so you have a second one to use while you are washing the first. We've had ours for 1.5 yrs. Still going strong. No rips, no signs of wear and tear at all. Never leaks. And easy to clean, just wash with the diapers and hang to dry.
Just the kind of news website I've been looking for. I need the latest and most reliable news in order for my business to prosper, and now I have it. The rest is up to me. Dr. David C. Robinson, PE Mitigation Procurement Systems www.full-delivery.com

What I like best is that the recipes are made out of real ingredients instead of relying on egg replacers, fake meats and such. I have nothing wrong with those products and enjoy the occasional Tofurkey kielbasa, but such foods (processed) certainly aren't healthy on a daily basis.

BaronSamedi3 posted a Quick Tip about Carnation.

Very affordable, beautiful flowers which smell nice. Carnations usually aren't quite as expensive as roses, and so it's easy for a guy to buy one for a girl he likes but isn't actually dating. They come in a few different colors.

A very bitter vegetable which tastes decent with salt or when it's raw. It has a reputation for being iron-rich, but this reputation turned out to be a mistake due to a misplaced decimal point which just got out of control before anyone noticed it.
I'm a frequent reader and first time member of the ENN online community. I love this website. It keeps me up to date on topics I already know something about, and educates me in new areas that I didn't know a thing about! Many times I have had discussions with family and friends about topics I read on the ENN website, and it's always an educational experience. … more
It’s not much different in my business life as well. Cardboard within cardboard within cardboard is not uncommon. What do you do with all that cardboard? Well, the good news is that most of that cardboard does end up at the recycling mill! Upwards of 70% of all the cardboard manufactured is recycled into – what else – more cardboard. … more
I love public libraries and would keep them around if I were in charge. That may sound like a common statement, but in my case it's quite a generous compliment. I'm one of those heartless, evil libertarians rightists keep saying are unpatriotic and leftists keep saying are racist. (And no, I'm not especially unpatriotic or racist. I can see the angle on the first one because … more
This may not sound like a big deal at first. What, another hybrid? But, this is much bigger than that. The Volvo V60 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that runs not only on battery power but on clean diesel fuel as well. I’m getting all green with excitement, now. According to Volvo the V60 PHEV Diesel has 3 different temperaments of operation: • “In Pure the car runs only … more
I'm a huge fan of reusable shopping bags and feel so naked when I go grocery shopping without them. Some have voiced concerns about them getting germy over time, so my suggestion is to skip over those 99 cent plastic bags (they break really easily anyways) and pay the $5 for a sturdy cloth ones which can be tossed into a washing machine. Mine have lasted me for years. Note: mine … more
